EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A long-planned, $80 million amphitheater project in Northeast El Paso is now expected to open in early 2027, even though construction has not yet begun at the site.
Venu held a groundbreaking for the Sunset Amphitheater El Paso in November at the former Cohen Stadium site, near Gateway North Boulevard and Cohen Avenue.
The venue had previously been expected to be ready by the end of this year, but the opening has been delayed to early 2027.

Plans call for an amphitheater that seats about 12,500 guests and includes VIP areas and seats known as Luxe Firesuites.
Those private areas are planned to include gas-powered fire pits and premium seating.
The city of El Paso is contributing roughly $31 million toward the project.
The VIP areas are sponsored by NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, whose beer brand, Eight, is also the sponsor of the amphitheater.
In a statement, a Venu spokesperson said, “We’re making strong progress on Sunset Amphitheater El Paso, with the final design phase wrapping up in the coming weeks and site work expected to begin in the months ahead.”
City Rep. Cynthia Boyar Trejo, whose district includes the project site, did not respond in time for this report.
