After a long battle with numerous health issues, Gary Woodland is once again a winner on the PGA Tour.
Woodland, who underwent brain surgery in 2023 and then revealed earlier this month that he has been dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder as a result, ran away with the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Sunday. After starting the day with a one-shot lead over the field, Woodland posted a 3-under 67 in his final round to grab a massive five-shot win. Naturally, that sparked an incredibly emotional moment on the green.
The victory is now Woodland’s first since he won the U.S. Open in 2019. As a result, Woodland earned a $1.782 million check.

Nicolai Højgaard started the day just a shot back of Woodland, but stumbled and finished with a 1-over 71-over to fall back and pave the way for Woodland’s big win. Woodland didn’t need to do much to pull that off, either. After starting the day with four straight pars, Woodland made the turn going 4-under in a five-hole stretch to card a 31 on his front nine. He slipped briefly with a bogey at the par-4 14th, which resulted in a two-shot swing after a Højgaard birdie, but Woodland parred out the rest of the way to secure his win.
Min Woo Lee and Johnny Keefer finished third at 15-under, and Sam Stevens was alone in fifth at 14-under.
Here’s a look at how much Woodland and the rest of the field won this week in Houston.
