SACRAMENTO, CA (WIS) – After a dominant Sweet 16 win against Oklahoma, the South Carolina Gamecocks are set to face Big 12 Champion TCU Horned Frogs for a spot in the Final Four.
The Sooners put up a valiant effort, but there was too much for the Sooners as the women took a 94-68 win.
The Gamecocks were on fire from deep in the game, hitting 10-14 attempts beyond the arc. This nearly doubled their 5 threes a game average, and it showed in how efficient South Carolina was the entire contest.
Ta’Niya Latson led the team with an efficient 28 points, setting the tone of the game with a four-point play to end the first half.
South Carolina will be looking for the three-headed backcourt of Latson, Tessa Johson, and Raven Johnson to continue their high level of play as they are set to face one of the best guards in the nation.
The Gamecocks will have to contain former Notre Dame guard Olivia Miles, a three-time All-American who also won the 2026 Big-12 Player of the Year.
Miles is an all-around threat, holding 12 career triple-doubles, which ranks third-most in Division I history behind only Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. Just a week ago, she became the first player to record a triple-double for multiple teams in NCAA tournament history, having done so at both Notre Dame and TCU.
Marta Suarez from TCU also poses a challenge for the South Carolina defense. Suarez, standing at 6′3″ is a versatile forward who also shoots 38% from three. In the Horned Frogs’ win against Virginia, the senior put up a career high 33 points with four threes.
South Carolina, so far, is the top defensive team in the NCAA Tournament, holding opponents to just 31.6 percent shooting over the last two weeks. Its .347 field goal percentage defense on the season ranks sixth in the nation.
