Authorities say a woman intentionally ran a man over with her car in an H-E-B parking lot on San Antonio’s South Side last year.

Julianna Marie Favella, 20, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Aug. 21 incident at the H-E-B Plus at McCreless Market near New Braunfels Avenue and Interstate 37.

She was arrested March 20 and was released two days later, court records show.

The incident began after Favella and the male victim, who did not know each other, began exchanging words outside the store, according to an affidavit written by a San Antonio Police Department detective. Surveillance video showed the victim walking away across the parking lot while pushing a shopping cart. Sometime after, Favella got into the passenger side of her car, with another person taking the wheel, and they drove ahead of the victim and parked. Favella and the other person got out and had another verbal exchange with the victim, who then walked away again pushing the cart.

That’s when the detective states the situation escalated. As the victim continued to walk away, Favella got behind the wheel of her car and suddenly accelerated toward him, striking him and knocking him to the ground. The impact sent the shopping cart flying across the parking lot. Favella continued to drive, turning the vehicle toward the victim and running him over, and stopping while he was completely under the car, according to the detective. She then backed up, let the original driver get in on the passenger side, and drove off.

Authorities later identified Favella as the registered owner of the vehicle involved in the incident. She also confirmed that he was the driver of the vehicle that hit the victim, the affidavit states.
