Lubbock Animal Services has done such a great job meeting the community’s needs that they’ve been awarded a grant to do even more—and that’s something worth paying attention to.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: we can control the pet population in Lubbock. We just have to decide to do it. It starts—and honestly, it ends—with spaying and neutering pets. I get it, life gets busy and money can be tight, but compare that to the time spent trying to give away a litter of puppies… or the cost of raising them yourself. This is one of those “pay a little now or pay a lot later” situations.

Lubbock Animal Services Receives A Large Grant

Here’s the good news—there’s help.

Lubbock Animal Services already offers spay and neuter vouchers from time to time, and now they’ve received a $150,000 grant that will fund an estimated 1,500 MORE vouchers. That’s not small potatoes—that’s real, measurable impact.

Let’s put that into perspective. If each of those animals avoided just one litter, you’re talking about thousands of animals that never end up on the streets or in shelters. That’s how you actually move the needle.

And this didn’t just fall into their lap. Lubbock Animal Services was selected from over 100 applicants to be one of just 38 organizations statewide to receive funding from the Texas Department of State Health Services. That says a lot about the work they’re already doing.

In fact, even before this grant, they were performing 2,000 to 3,000 surgeries in-house. Add another 1,500 on top of that, and now you’re talking about real change—not just talk, but action.

There is one catch—you’ll need a little patience. The grant funds don’t officially kick in until October. But if you’re ready to get ahead of it, keep an eye out for current voucher opportunities and be ready to jump when they’re available.

We’ve got the tools.
We’ve got the support.
Now we just need the decision.
