SELMA, Texas – New details released Thursday night shed light on what led to a deadly SWAT standoff in a Selma neighborhood that ended with a Seguin police officer shooting and killing a man.

The shooting happened Wednesday, March 18, at a home along Showdown Path not far from Retama Park. Bryon Hoover, 60, was shot during the incident, according to a newly released custody death report from the Texas attorney general’s office.

The report says the standoff lasted several hours and that Hoover continued firing his rifle at police drones. At one point, the report says, a round went through the front door and hit a SWAT vehicle.

Hoover was also accused of making ongoing threats to kill law enforcement officers.

The report states that “due to the immediate threat of deadly force,” a SWAT officer discharged his rifle, hitting Hoover while he was standing in the back doorway of the house.

Hoover was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he died from his injuries two days later. The Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
