SAN ANTONIO — An off-duty 13-year-veteran Bexar County deputy was arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

BCSO said Sergeant Veronica Sanchez, 44, was arrested by San Antonio police officers early Tuesday morning at approximately 2:19 a.m.

Sanchez has been issued a notice of proposed dismissal and placed on paid administrative leave pending termination, according to BCSO.

“Sergeant Sanchez has been a popular and respected member of this agency. Rightfully, we hold all of our deputies to a higher standard, even more so when they hold a supervisory rank. I do not expect her career to survive this huge violation of the public trust,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a statement.

The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate. BCSO is also conducting a separate internal investigation.
