EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Marathon Petroleum is a step closer to renewing its air permit for its refinery in south-central El Paso, despite concerns raised by some community members.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ, said the company’s application meets all legal requirements.
State regulators concluded the refinery’s authorized emissions will not harm public health or the environment.
Because the application meets the required legal standards, a state report said the permit cannot simply be denied.
The final decision now rests with TCEQ commissioners, who are expected to take up the permit at an upcoming public meeting.
