College Football Hall of Famer and former NFL star Adrian Peterson was arrested in Sugar Land — a suburb of Houston — on Sunday, according to Fort Bend County jail records.
Peterson was charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. According to KHOU, it’s his second DWI arrest in seven months.
Here is what to know about his legal troubles.
This is Peterson’s second arrest for a DWI‑related incident this year.
On April 25, Peterson was arrested in Minnesota on suspicion of DWI after police said he was traveling 83 mph in a 55 mph zone and registered a blood‑alcohol concentration of .14. Minnesota’s legal BAC driving limit is 0.08, but you can be arrested for DWI at lower levels, according to the Office of Traffic Safety.
In 2022, he was removed from a Houston-bound flight after allegedly verbally and physically assaulting his wife on board. No charges were filed, and his wife later stated that he did not hit her.
In 2014, Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault in Montgomery County after using a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son.
Peterson, a native of Palestine, Texas, played in the NFL from 2007 to 2021. He spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota Vikings and also had stints with the Saints, Cardinals, Commanders, Lions, Titans, and Seahawks.
Over his career, he recorded 14,918 rushing yards and 120 touchdowns on 184 regular-season carries. In college where he played for the Oklahoma Sooners, Peterson had a career rushing total of 4,041 yards and 41 touchdowns.
