Texas A&M dominates Sam Houston, 16-2

  • April 1, 2026

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M baseball (23-5, 5-4) cruised to a 16-2 victory over its local counterpart Sam Houston (14-14, 4-5) on Tuesday night.

“At this point in the year, you got to use these Tuesdays to try to figure out if you have an extra pitcher or an extra bat or something, and then you got to have a short memory,” Sam Houston head coach Jay Sirianni said.

The Aggies once again exploded in multiple frames, racking up five runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the sixth inning to capture a run-rule victory for the eighth time this season.

“I just think we have a deep lineup,” Texas A&M head coach Michael Earley said. “We want to be relentless. We want to be methodical throughout the lineup and I think they do that and they kind of feed off it.”

With the victory, Texas A&M has now won six games in a row dating back to March 22 against Georgia. Here is a game rundown:

Why did A&M win?  The Aggies won this game on the back of an offensive explosion. Texas A&M drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI groundout, but was quiet for the next two innings. The lull didn’t last long as the Aggies struck for four runs in the fourth inning on the backs of a Gavin Grahovac solo home run, a Nico Partida two-RBI double, and a Blake Binderup RBI single.

Once Texas A&M took a 5-1 lead, the game was all but over, but the Aggies continued to tack on, adding three runs in the fifth inning and seven runs in the sixth inning to cruise to the run-rule-shortened 16-2 victory in seven innings.

Who stood out?  Freshman phenom Nico Partida once again had a great night for the Aggies. The third baseman went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. He has now collected 12 hits and 14 RBI during the Aggies’ six-game winning streak.

Gavin Grahovac also had a whale of a night for the Maroon and White. He went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double.

All told, six different Texas A&M players had two or more hits. Eight Aggies recorded a hit, and all nine batters reached base safely in the win.

What was a key stat? Texas A&M has now defeated Sam Houston four times in a row. The Bearkats’ last win in the series was in April 2023. The Aggies lead the all-time series 94-43-2 with the first meeting back in 1950.

What does this mean moving forward for A&M? Texas A&M once again showed it takes its midweek matchups seriously. The Aggies are 7-0 in midweek games and have earned run-rule victories in four of those wins.

The Aggie offense is on fire and has scored 11 or more runs in five of its last six games. Once again, the question is whether the pitching will elevate along with the offense. The four pitchers who appeared in Tuesday’s win were largely adequate, but dominant midweek wins against mid-major programs only go so far for an NCAA Tournament resume. The pitching staff must show up during conference series if this team is serious about its Omaha ambitions.

What’s next? Texas A&M has just one day off and begins a three-game series with Vanderbilt on Thursday. First pitch from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park is scheduled for 6 p.m.
