Zapata is 0-8 against Calallen since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Hawks will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Zapata sitting on three straight wins and Calallen on six.
Zapata came out on top against Robstown on Tuesday thanks in part to the team’s impressive four-run second inning. The Hawks were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Cottonpickers.
Karly Alvarenga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it’s clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn’t tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jayleen Ramirez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Regina DelBosque, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Zapata was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robstown only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, Calallen’s rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team’s third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let King get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday’s blowout was nothing new.
Hannah Thibodeaux made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thibodeaux was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Braelyn Bailey was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Addison Juarez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Zapata’s win bumped their record up to 14-9-2. As for Calallen, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8-2.
Thursday’s game will be a test for both teams’ pitchers. Zapata hasn’t had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it’s not like Calallen struggles in that department as they’ve averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Zapata might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Calallen when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
