Austin Goosby, the centerpiece of Texas basketball’s 2026 recruiting class, did what he does best in limited minutes at Tuesday’s McDonald’s All-American game: Help his team win.

Goosby, a 6-foot-5 guard from the Dallas suburb of Melissa, scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting, made two steals, dished out an assist and grabbed two rebounds in just 13 minutes as his West team beat the East all-stars 86-71. The steals represent what Goosby will likely do from the opening tip next season for the Longhorns; he’s not a prodigious scorer even though he gets buckets, but his length and instincts could make him an elite perimeter defender for head coach Sean Miller next season.

Goosby is ranked by 247Sports’ composite ratings as the No. 28 overall prospect for his class in the nation. He headlines Texas’ four-player 2026 class along with Bo Ogden from Austin’s Westlake High School, Joe Sterling from Los Angeles and Austin native Coleman Elkins, who played at St. Andrew’s before spending this season at Blair Academy in New Jersey. Texas’ 2026 class currently ranks No. 12 in the nation.

Goosby is the 25th player to sign a letter of intent with the Texas men’s program and get selected to the McDonald’s All-American Game. That list includes the Longhorns’ last McDonald’s All-American: Tre Johnson, a guard  in the 2024 class who currently plays for the Washington Wizards.

Goosby averages 17.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists for Dynamic Prep in Irving. Last season he posted 24.1 points and 7.1 rebounds while leading Melissa to the state playoffs.
