Man identified as person who died after crashing into Irving bridge

Van Bawil Yan, 50, died at 9:40 p.m. at the scene, according to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.

Irving officers responded to reports of an accident around 9:35 p.m. on March 11 in the westbound lanes of Interstate 635, according to a previous statement.

Investigators located the vehicle, which had left the roadway and crashed into a concrete bridge column under State Highway 161.

Yan was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement.

Police have not said what they believe led Yan to crash.
