A revamped hotel near the Park Cities has reopened after a multimillion-dollar renovation.
The Hotel Mockingbird, previously called The Beeman Hotel, is open. The nearly 300-room hotel is the latest addition to the Tribute Portfolio, Marriott Bonvoy’s collection of independent hotels.

Updates to the hotel include redesigned guest quarters and two new dining options.
The first is Verse Kitchen & Bar, which features specialty cocktails like The Tequila Mockingbird, plus signature programming including Verse Vinyl Brunch and ConVERSEations, a monthly discussion series celebrating Texas’ creative culture. The second is Raven, an after-dark speakeasy.
The hotel will also offer curated packages like The Pony Express, an SMU game-day weekend experience that includes a welcome amenity, valet parking, breakfast for two and late checkout on Sunday. The hotel is also partnering with nearby The Woodhouse Spa to offer guests exclusive perks and added wellness-focused benefits.

Grapevine-based NewcrestImage bought the property in late 2024 for an undisclosed sum. The hotel is managed by Coury Hospitality.

Hotel Mockingbird, at 6070 North Central Expressway, is next to Southern Methodist University and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The property was most recently renovated in 2021 as part of a mixed-use project that included the construction of the 28-story Eastline Residences apartment high-rise. The hotel was previously owned by Chicago-based real estate investment firm Convexity Properties.
The hotel, previously called the Magnolia Hotel Park Cities, was built in 1972.
Tunnel project moves ahead
Elon Musk’s The Boring Company announced in March that a Dallas project had won its competition for a mile-long tunnel, but since then a fellow winner has fallen out of the running.Â

The Boring Company announced that Hoque Global’s University Hills project in southern Dallas was one of the winners of its Tunnel Vision Challenge, a competition to receive a mile-long tunnel.

When Dallas won, so did projects in New Orleans and Baltimore. However, in an X post after the announcement, the company said it wouldn’t be moving forward with the Baltimore project after initial meetings with regulators.Â
The Boring Company said in the post that it had great meetings with regulators for the University Hills Loop and hoped to submit a permit application in April. Additionally, the company said the tunnel could extend or connect to North Dallas.Â

FW Westside RE Investors LLC, a partnership between Keystone Group LP and Larkspur Capital LP, will build 100,000 square feet of Class AA office space and 308 apartments in the project’s first phase. Westside Village is touted as a walkable urban village.

At build-out, the project will feature approximately 880,000 square feet of office space, 238,000 square feet of retail, a boutique hotel and 1,785 residential units.

It will be the largest delivery of office space in Fort Worth over the last four decades by a single project, Schafer Smartt, vice president of development at Larkspur Capital, previously told The Dallas Morning News.
Moss Construction began moving dirt at the site in mid-January. The shell of the office building is expected to finish by the summer 2027. The apartments could be done by spring 2028, Smartt previously said.
