Registration for Collin College’s popular summer camps will open April 20, with a range of hands-on programs offered at campuses across the county — including several in Wylie and Allen that are expected to fill quickly.
The camps, designed for middle and high school students, cover topics from creative writing and music to automotive skills, electronics and robotics. College officials encourage early registration due to limited space in most sessions.
At the Wylie Campus, 391 Country Club Road, students can explore both creative and musical interests. A Summer Creative Writing Workshop will be held June 8–12, offering teens ages 14–17 the opportunity to develop poetry and short fiction while learning from published writers and guest speakers. The week concludes with a public reading showcasing student work.
The campus will also host the Texas All-Star Jazz Camp June 14–19, open to musicians ages 13 and older. The program includes instruction in jazz theory, improvisation and performance, with faculty from across the country leading masterclasses and ensemble sessions.
In Allen, the Technical Campus at 2550 Bending Branch Way will offer a series of skill-based camps focused on automotive and engineering fields. Automotive Exploration Camp is scheduled for May 27–28 and introduces students in grades 9–12 to basic vehicle maintenance and safety using real vehicles.
Additional Allen offerings include a Basic Dent Repair Camp June 8–10, where students learn the fundamentals of collision repair, and a Vehicle Detailing Camp June 17–18, which focuses on professional cleaning techniques and tools.
For students interested in technology, multiple electronics camps will be offered throughout June and July, covering circuit building, soldering and related skills. A Robotics Camp scheduled for July 20–24 will give younger students the chance to design, build and test small robots.
Most camps range in cost from $50 to $305, depending on the program, and include supplies. Officials note that space is limited in each session and recommend registering early once enrollment opens.
