Gas prices continue to rise in Texas as global tensions — including the ongoing conflict involving Iran — continue to push up crude oil costs.

Nationally, prices are also climbing. As of Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.08, according to AAA.

That’s up 10 cents from last week and about $1 higher than a month ago. Crude oil prices remain elevated as the conflict enters its fourth week, putting continued pressure on fuel costs. Prices could approach $4 per gallon nationwide for the first time since August 2022.

A line graph shows the sharp increase, with prices rising from $2.98 on Feb. 26 to $3.98 on March 26.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand also increased last week, from 8.72 million barrels per day to 8.92 million.

According to AAA, gas prices are still rising throughout Austin. Last week’s average in the Austin-San Marcos metropolitan areas were $3.64.

Texas ranks 35th among states for gas prices, according to the report.
