Covenant Health accepts UnitedHealthcare plans following network change with TTUHSC

  • April 2, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Covenant Health says it is accepting most UnitedHealthcare insurance plans following the contract expiration between UnitedHealthcare and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

The announcement comes after more than 30,000 patients lost in-network access to TTUHSC and TExas Tech Physicians on March 31.

Patients who are out of network with TTUHSC can continue their care at Covenant Health facilities.

Covenant Health System operates facilities in across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

TTUHSC issued a notice of potential termination of its participation agreement with UnitedHealthcare in early 2025. The contract expired March 31 after an agreement on reimbursement rates was not reached.

Texas Tech Physicians said it will continue to provide care to UnitedHealthcare patients, even out of network. However, patients may face higher out-of-pocket costs for medical services.
