A number of Canyon Lake-area schools — including three elementary schools — were briefly placed on a “secure” hold status on Thursday, April 2, according to Comal Independent School District.
Rebecca Creek Elementary, Startzville Elementary, Mountain Valley Elementary, Mountain Valley Middle and Canyon Lake High School were all on the “secure” status, meaning that students and staff were to remain inside the building and all outside doors were secured. The district shared that the Comal County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call earlier Wednesday morning. Law enforcement have since investigated and given the all clear to all of the campuses.
The district said all students and staff are safe and that there is no emergency on campus. The alert, shared first at 11:13 a.m. by the CISD Canyon Lake High via Facebook, comes just days after a 15-year-old student shot a teacher at Hill Country College Prep High School in Bulverde — another Comal ISD campus — before turning the gun on himself.
“The safety and security of our students and staff remain a top priority,” CISD Canyon Lake High wrote in the Facebook post.
MySA has reached out to the school district and law enforcement officials with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office for comment on the lockdown.
