El Paso, how many times must we suffer? Just when we finally came to terms with DK gas stations replacing our beloved 7/11s, here comes OXXO, Latin America’s convenience store juggernaut, rolling in like it owns the place. They’re held a press conference on October 2 to announce their grand U.S. expansion plans, but make no mistake, this is less a business move and more a full-scale invasion.

The Day 7/11 Disappeared From El Paso

A few years ago, we were betrayed. 7/11 was ripped from our grasp and replaced with DK, leaving us to wander the desert like lost souls, clutching Speedway Slurpees that just never hit the same. Free Slurpee Day turned into a hollow, joyless ritual.

Sure, DK tried to fill the void with “Speedy Rewards,” but did we ask for coupons? No. We asked for Big Gulps, taquitos spinning endlessly on heated rollers, and the neon glow of a 7/11 sign guiding us home at 3 a.m.

DK Gives Way to OXXO in El Paso

Now, DK itself is about to be gutted. OXXO is taking over the very stations that once took over 7/11. If this feels like a gas station soap opera, that’s because it is. One day we’re Speedways, the next we’re DKs, and now, soon, we’ll be OXXOs.

OXXO executives will arrive with fanfare, ribbon cuttings, and press conferences about “growth plans,” but we know the truth. This is a hostile takeover of our convenience store identity.

OXXO vs 7/11: The Battle for Our Hearts

OXXO might have a flashier brand, a better snack game, and a vibe that screams “Mexico’s answer to 7/11,” but let’s be real, it still isn’t 7/11. Until Slurpees flow freely in the Sun City again, El Paso will never truly heal.

We’ll show up to OXXO ribbon cuttings, nod politely at the executives, and even buy their snacks, but deep down, we’ll be whispering the same prayer: “Bring back 7/11.”

El Paso’s Gas Station Identity Crisis

So buckle up, El Paso. Another logo change is coming to a corner near you. Another round of “who are we this week?” awaits. But no matter how many times the sign changes, the wound remains the same.

We are a 7/11 town, and until the green and red rises again, there will be no peace.
