SAN ANTONIO – A man convicted in two separate killings will spend decades in prison after receiving two 50-year sentences, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
Rene Gonzales was sentenced Thursday to two concurrent 50-year prison terms for the deaths of Novita Brazil and Gabriel Gonzales.
Prosecutors say the first killing happened in October 2022 during a drive-by shooting. Authorities said Gonzales was aiming for a different home but instead fired at Brazil’s residence, killing her.

While out on bond for that case, Gonzales later violated the conditions of his release by removing his GPS ankle monitor, officials said.
Not long after, prosecutors say Gonzales was involved in a second deadly shooting. Gabriel Gonzales was killed while trying to protect his daughter from an alleged assault involving Gonzales’ sister outside their home.
