The former Gregory-Portland Wildcat Walker Janek made some nice defensive plays behind the plate in the loss to Frisco.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It was a special night for former Gregory-Portland Wildcat Walker Janek despite the Hooks being unable to get the bats going in a 5-1 loss to Frisco on Opening Day.
Janek made a couple of nice plays behind the plate by throwing out a baserunner in the second inning and getting an out on a dribbler in the third. The Astros’ fifth overall prospect finished 0-3 at the plate with a walk.
He said playing in front of his family and friends was a dream come true.
“It was awesome and something I’ve looked forward to for a long time. I was happy to be here,” Janek said.
Of his own performance, Janek says the best is hopefully yet to come.
“It was decent. Still room to go, but first game jitters probably.”
The Hooks will look to even the series on Firworks Friday, which is also Kiii-TV night. The series with the RoughRiders runs through Saturday before the team hits the road to San Antonio for the week following Easter.
