AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Arlington track & field team opened competition at Texas Relays on Thursday in Austin, Texas, with five personal bests and six top five placements.

Junior Eliza Lemberga led the way in the field events for the Mavericks on day one, with a second-place finish in the women’s javelin, recording a personal-best throw of 44.89 meters. Her mark ties for second all-time in program history.

Two Maverick women paced UTA in Thursday’s running events. Freshman Dorcas Jepkosgei turned in a silver medal personal best performance in the women’s 5000m with a time of 16:37.46. Junior Matro Jepkemboi followed behind Jepkosgei in the 5000m, as she earned third place in 16:51.43.

Freshman Devin Payne added a top five finish in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (54.05), earning fifth. Junior Emilia Mandl placed sixth in the women’s 800 meters (2:09.80)

Freshman Kali Todman posted a personal-best time of 1:05.63 in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. On the men’s side, senior Andrei Fuentes also recorded a personal best time in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.24.

As night came, junior Kellen Frickel finished fourth in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Frickel clocked a personal-best time of 9:12.64, improving his previous best by 9.39 seconds.

The last race of the day, the men’s 10k race, was highlighted by sophomore Toby Eaton, finishing fifth in 31:12.76.
