The restaurant takes the place of El Tiempo Cantina, a Houston chain that didn’t last long — about a year.
Loma owner Brandon Hurtado wants his restaurant to feel upscale. Diners can start with Oysters Oaxacafeller ($24) — wood-fired oysters with espelette-harissa cream and melted Oaxaca cheese — or tableside guacamole ($22). Other options are poblano Caesar salad ($14), short rib enchiladas ($24) and the star of the space, Wagyu skirt steak fajitas ($29 for one, $54 for two).
The menu also offers seared Gulf snapper served with poblano risotto ($44) and puffy tacos with Wagyu picadillo ($22). Next time I go, I’ll start with one of four crudos, priced $18 to $26.
And margaritas: At a sneak peek of the restaurant, nearly everyone was ordering them.
The restaurant is in the Rangers’ former ballpark, across from Globe Life Field, where the team plays today. The old stadium’s original stone columns stand tall inside Loma, a subtle reminder of the team’s past.
Loma is Hurtado’s first Tex-Mex restaurant, though he’s been in the restaurant industry for six years. He owns Hurtado Barbecue, which started in Arlington and now has restaurants in Fort Worth, Mansfield and the Dallas Farmers Market.
His company operates two stands inside Globe Life Field and is the official barbecue of the Texas Rangers. Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant once said Hurtado’s massive beef ribs were the best thing to eat in the ballpark. (Those are available only for big games, as lines got long for a $45 hunk of meat that sells out quickly. But, in 2026, Hurtado Barbecue is bringing back its popular birria tacos stuffed with brisket and cheese.)
When Hurtado was starting out in restaurants, he might have laughed if you would have asked him if his small business would turn into a partnership with his favorite baseball team and a Tex-Mex restaurant across the street.
“I would have assumed you had too many margaritas in the parking lot, tailgating before opening day,” Hurtado said.
Loma TXMX is at 1011 Nolan Ryan Expressway (inside Choctaw Stadium, the former Rangers ballpark), Arlington. Valet available on event days. Parking is free in Lot B on non-event days and available around Choctaw Stadium.
