Some of Plano ISD’s most talented student artists are stepping into the spotlight this month. The ArtCentre of Plano will host its annual Advanced Placement (AP) Art student exhibition from April 9 through April 30, 2026, featuring work from high school seniors across the district.

The exhibition highlights the culmination of a year-long creative process, giving the community a chance to experience the depth, discipline and originality of Plano ISD’s visual arts programs.

A Year Of Work On Display

The AP Studio Art exhibition represents the final stage of an intensive, year-long journey for graduating seniors enrolled in AP Art and Design courses. Students begin by developing individual inquiry questions, guiding themes that shape the direction of their work. Over time, those ideas evolve into a cohesive portfolio built through research, experimentation and revision.

The pieces featured in the exhibition reflect months of effort, from early sketches to refined final works, as students push their creative boundaries and develop their own artistic voice.

This year, 137 students are participating in the exhibition.

Why The Exhibition Matters

For many students, this moment marks a transition from high school into college and future creative careers.

The AP program emphasizes skills that extend beyond art itself, including critical thinking, problem-solving and creative discipline. Educators say those experiences help students build confidence and prepare for opportunities beyond the classroom.

The exhibition also gives the public a rare opportunity to see emerging talent at a formative stage, often before students continue their work at the collegiate or professional level.

A Longtime Community Tradition

According to ArtCentre leadership, the Plano ISD AP exhibition has become one of the organization’s most popular annual events. The showcase not only highlights student achievements, but also reflects the strength of Plano ISD’s fine arts programs and the educators supporting them.

The exhibition is sponsored by Texas Health Plano, continuing a partnership that supports arts education and community programming.

The exhibition will feature a wide range of mediums and styles, including:


Mixed media pieces
Acrylic and traditional painting
Concept-driven installations

Each work reflects a unique perspective, shaped by the student’s individual inquiry and creative process.

What To Know Before You Go

Founded in 1981, the ArtCentre of Plano is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting arts and arts education throughout the community.

The exhibition will be on display at ArtCentre of Plano, 902 E. 16th St., Plano, with gallery hours running Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A closing reception and award presentation will take place on April 30 at 5 p.m., with remarks beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
