Halloween is almost here, and for those not looking to go door-to-door this year, there’s a few trunk or treat events taking place around Lake Highlands.

Trunk or treating has become a staple of Halloweentime in the neighborhood over the last 30 years — no doubt aided by the active presence of our neighborhood’s many churches. For those unsure about the traditional route through strangers’ front doors, the format offers a safe yet still candy-filled experience for families.
Many trunk or treat events in Lake Highlands are hosted the weekend prior to Oct. 31. Still, there’s a few events planned for this week, Halloween and the following weekend.
So, here’s some (plus other Halloween events) taking place over the coming days. All events listed below are free, although some are asking for donations or volunteers to decorate their trunks.
Lake Highlands Public Improvement District Trunk or Treat
Oct. 31 5:30-7 p.m. | 8676 Skillman St
LHPID will be joined in hosting its trunk or treat by District 10 Council member Kathy Stewart, the Dallas Police Department and JAH Realty. From 5:30-7 p.m. on Halloween, families can head to the Lake Highlands Village Shopping Center parking lot and grab some free candy.
Lakeridge Village Trunk or Treat
Oct. 28 5:30-7:30 p.m | 9660 Audelia Road
Lakeridge Village’s trunk or treat promises more entertainment options than most. In addition to a live DJ, “Halloween characters” will be onsite for photos, with Vector Brewing’s mascot likely to make an appearance.
Gracehill Church Trunk or Treat
Oct 31 6:30-9 p.m. | 8535 Ferndale Road | Volunteers needed
This church trunk or treat promises a bouncy house and games in addition to the usual offering. The church is currently seeking volunteers to decorate their trunks for the event. Gracehill will provide candy and toys. Volunteers are also needed for parking, safety and other areas.
