CANYON, Texas (April 4, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University dominated West Texas A&M University with a decisive 12-1 victory on Saturday at Wilder Park, winning the series three games to one.
The Chaparrals surged ahead with a six-run second inning and added four more runs in the eighth while starting pitcher Bryce Nall allowed just one run on the mound in seven innings of work. Every LCU starter reached base at least once in the game and the team hit .643 with runners in scoring position.
Both teams loaded the bases in the first inning, but WT was the first to break through. Nall put three runners on before even recording an out, but the run only came across on a double play, and he got another groundout to limit the damage.
Lubbock Christian responded strongly in the second inning. Carlos Mauldin and Dylan Marx drew walks with one out, setting the stage for Kyle Lewis to bunt in a run. Lewis continued to pressure the defense with a steal, and Jorge de los Santos singled to bring in another run. Ryan Gargett followed with a two-RBI single, and Owen Alsup and Freddie Nolen contributed RBIs before the inning finally came to a close.
In the third inning, Marx scored again after hitting a single and advancing on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Hudson Grace added two more runs with a single, extending the Chaparrals’ lead to 8-1.
The game stayed right there for the next four frames, as Nall and WT reliever Shea Lake traded zeroes. Both pitchers had a stretch of nine batters straight retired as LCU stayed ahead by seven runs.
In the eighth, Grace doubled and de los Santos walked, setting up Gargett’s RBI single. Alsup continued the offensive surge with a two-RBI triple, and Nolen reached on an error that allowed Alsup to score, increasing the lead to 12-1.
With Will Cooper coming in to to try and close out the game in the eighth, West Texas A&M managed a double in the eighth inning but did not score. Nolen tracked down a fly ball to the warning track in left center and ended the game 12-1.
Nall delivered his best performance of the season on the mound for the Chaps, pitching a career-high seven innings while allowing only two hits with four strikeouts. He issued just one walk and threw 63 strikes out of 91 pitches for strikes.
