CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – West Texas A&M Buffs’ baseball fell to Lubbock Christian after a 12-1 loss in eight innings Saturday at Wilder Park.
West Texas A&M took a 1-0 lead in the first when Timothy Haynes grounded out with the bases loaded to drive in a run.
The Chaps responded with six runs in the second. Kyle Lewis came home on a squeeze bunt, Jorge De Los Santos singled in a run, and Ryan Gargett’s single to right plated two more. Owen Alsup and Freddie Nolen each added hits in the frame to make it 6-1.
Hudson Grace’s two-run single to right in the third pushed the Lubbock Christian lead to 8-1.
West Texas A&M relievers Shea Lake and Bryce Nall held the Chaps scoreless through the seventh before Lubbock Christian broke through for four runs in the eighth. Alsup’s two-run triple highlighted the rally that made it 12-1.
Ruben Diaz Garcia took the loss, giving up four earned runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. He walked four and struck out one. Diaz Garcia is now 0-2 on the year.
The Chaps pick up the series win after taking three games out of four.
The Buffs head to San Angelo, Texas, next weekend for a four-game series against Angelo State beginning Friday at Foster Field.
