AUSTIN, Texas — Stormwaters likely played a role in the deaths of two people whose bodies were found over the weekend, the Austin Police Department (APD) said in an update on Monday.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, APD officers responded to two separate incidents where the bodies of a man and a woman were found.
The man was found at the 100 block of S. First St., near Lady Bird Lake. The woman was found in the 4700 block of Unity Circle, near Shoal Creek and by the intersection of West 45th Street and Shoal Creek Boulevard.
Neither case is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
Earlier on Saturday, rescue crews suspended the search for a victim or victims reportedly washed away during the storms in Austin.
According to Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS), medics were called to the scene of a water rescue at a culvert in the 5200 block of Burnet Road, near Hancock Drive, around 1:30 a.m. Around 2:30 a.m., ATCEMS said after “an extensive search,” crews were unable to locate the victim.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death for the man and woman.
No other information will be released until police identify the victims and notify next-of-kin.
