AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Wildlife Rescue made a “dam” rare discovery late last week when they rescued a lost baby beaver.
Officers with Austin Animal Services found the baby beaver, called a kit, walking alone on a sidewalk. The officers did not say where in Austin this occurred. Austin Animal Services then took the kit to Austin Wildlife Rescue after failing to find a mother, siblings or other beavers.
According to a Facebook post from Austin Wildlife Rescue, the baby beaver “was weak and cold upon intake,” and since beavers take good care of their young, the nonprofit group believes heavy rain washed the kit out of its den.
The kit accepted formula “after a few tiny beaver tantrums” and went to sleep alongside a stuffed animal.
“Rehabbing beavers involves a lot of opinions and stubbornness from the beaver side… think of it like a toddler that doesn’t like anything you offer but also asks for that exact same thing,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
