Detectives believe the suspect may have driven around the neighborhood when attempting to leave.
AUSTIN, Texas — Police have identified the victim of a homicide near an apartment complex in northwest Austin on Friday.
According to the Austin Police Department(APD), 35-year-old Joshua Williams was shot and killed in the incident in the 10900 block of Brazoria Lane.
Police say officers responded to the scene near The Cottages at Northwoods apartment complex around 12:42 a.m. after reports of shots fired. A 911 caller reported her boyfriend had been shot.
Officers arriving on the scene located Williams with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:09 a.m.
No arrests have been made at this time, APD said.
Detectives believe the suspect may have driven around the neighborhood when attempting to leave. They are asking neighbors share any video footage in the area from between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. Anyone with photos, video or other potential evidence is asked to share them with APD.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 18th homicide of 2026.
