Police on Sunday arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of manslaughter after, they allege, he recklessly fired a pistol inside a southwest Fort Worth apartment building and fatally shot a boy of the same age.
The shooter reported that he and Jaydon Jones had been “playing all day” with the gun and that the shooting was an accident, according to a Fort Worth police account that state district Judge Alex Kim read aloud during a detention hearing on Monday in the 323rd District Court in Tarrant County.
Judge Kim ordered that the shooter remain held in the county’s juvenile detention center.
Jones was shot at The Nolan apartments in the 6600 block of South Hulen Street, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jones, who was shot in the torso, was pronounced dead at the scene about 5:45 p.m. The shooter was detained there.
