Shots were reported on a METRO bus in Houston’s Heights. Police say a suspect fled and no injuries were reported.

HOUSTON — Shots were reported on a METRO bus in Houston’s Heights late Monday night, prompting an ongoing investigation as police work to track down a suspect and determine exactly what happened.

Authorities say the incident unfolded just before 10 p.m. near Studewood and Euclid Street, where a bus that serves the area was involved.

Investigators with Precinct One and METRO police are looking into what they describe as unconfirmed shots fired on the bus. Officers were seen searching for shell casings and possible bullet holes, but there has been no confirmation that any evidence has been found.

METRO police shared new details in a statement overnight about what may have led up to the incident.

“Preliminary information indicates a bus operator advised an individual boarding the bus, of the fare. The individual, who appeared irate, then moved to the back of the bus, where a weapon was discharged. The suspect then took off.”

Police say finding the suspect is their top priority.

No injuries have been reported, but the situation has left nearby residents shaken.

“We just got to a coffee shop and saw all of the police that were here and we saw the bus was empty, so I was just like, well, what did the bus driver do? Um, but it, but it wasn’t him,” one witness said.

“I think it’s so scary. I can’t imagine being being on that bus and having to deal with that as well because it’s just, it just doesn’t feel safe anymore,” another witness said.

Authorities have not released any information about a suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to search for answers.
