The Hill Country Youth Event Center in Kerrville is scheduled to undergo a $2 million upgrade this summer, nearly one year after local leaders commandeered the space to serve as a headquarters for the Fourth of July flood’s response operations.
According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the forthcoming upgrades include work on an existing indoor arena, where construction crews will add a concrete floor and public restrooms. Though all TDLR filings are subject to change at any time, construction on the property, which is owned by Kerr County, will begin on May 4, 2026, and will conclude on December 31, 2030.
Last July, the multi-purpose event center, which is typically used for livestock shows, quilt exhibitions, and gun and knife events, became the center of daily news conferences when local and national media outlets flocked to Kerr County to cover ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
Work on the property, located at 3785 Highway 27, Kerrville, TX 78028, will encompass a total of 62,500 square feet. According to the state filing, the project may involve the use of public funds. The county has not responded to a request for comment.
