It won’t be long before one of Houston’s hottest spots for Caribbean cuisine will be available in another part of the area. Jamaica Pon Di Road has officially filed a permit for its expansion to the Missouri City area, and an opening is tentatively planned for this summer.

According to the project details submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Jamaica Pon Di Road’s newest destination will be nestled at 3434 FM 1092 in Missouri City. Construction for the estimated $150,000 renovation is expected to be completed between May and the end of July. But, as always, information in TDLR filings is subject to change.

The team behind Jamaica Pon Di Road revealed the upcoming second restaurant at the beginning of the year. Gareth Powell (a.k.a Chef G.) didn’t share too many details about the newer—and bigger—location, but he did promise that folks can expect the same authentic flavors at the space formerly home to Sugar’s Cajun Cuisine & Bar.

An official opening date has yet to be announced, but the team previously teased it would be sometime this summer.

Chef G. and his family have been dishing out classic Caribbean cuisine in Houston for a decade—first in a food truck, and then a bright blue cottage in the Acres Home area that became its first brick-and-mortar restaurant.

Hailing from Jamaica, Chef G brought years of culinary experience to Houston and at Jamaica Pon Di Road developed a menu blending both traditional and modern flavors, like jerk chicken, oxtail egg rolls, sweet drunken plantains and more.
