The historic German brewery Hofbräuhaus will make its North Texas debut with the opening of Hofbräu Pub in Addison this fall, according to an announcement by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder.
Söder visited Houston in late March and, alongside Hofbrauhaus Munich officials, unveiled the expansion of the brand in Texas, starting with the Addison location.
The history of Hofbräuhaus began in 1516, when the Beer Purity Law was enacted, stipulating that beer could be made only from barley, hops and water. The brewery was founded in 1589 in Munich, and since then, Hofbräuhaus beer has been brewed in strict accordance with that law, using only water, barley malt and hops.
In 1997, the brand entered the U.S. and today has locations in Las Vegas; Pittsburgh; Cleveland, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Newport, Ky.; and Buffalo, N.Y.
Addison’s annual Oktoberfest is one of the largest such celebrations in the state, and Hofbräu Pub is a good fit.
Hofbräuhaus’ beer selection includes classic Bavarian beers such as its original full-bodied lager; Hefe Weizen, with a special yeast and fruity flavor; and Dunkel, with a dry hops taste.
It also offer seasonal brews, such as Maibock, touted as one of Munich’s oldest beers; Dunkel Weizen, a dark beer; and Oktoberfestbier, the traditional beer of the world’s largest beer festival.
In addition, Hofbräu Pub will offer traditional German dishes such as its famous pork shank, salads and pretzels, and Bavarian specialties like pork roast, pork cutlets and Oktoberfest-style chicken.
