Could you finish the 9x9x9 challenge?
It’s a craze that’s spread across baseball for those who think they have the stomach for it — and the alcohol tolerance, too.
The challenge is simple: Nine hot dogs, nine beers, in nine innings. Finish all of these above and you get… pride, or something. A sense of accomplishment, hopefully one that outweighs the bellyache.
The challenge has gone so viral that six major league teams are getting in on the bit, offering 9x9x9 kits at their stadiums’ concessions.
If you’re a Rangers fan, unfortunately, Globe Life Field is not one of those stadiums. It’ll be on you to walk up to a hot dog concession and order nine of ’em yourself. And it’s gonna cost ya.
Luckily for you daring Rangers fans The Dallas Morning News has put in the research as to how hard the 9x9x9 challenge would hit your wallet. [Ed. note: The writer of this article is one who knows their limits, and thus did not actually partake in the challenge.]
At $7.39 per dog, plus sales tax, you’re looking at $72 dollars in just hot dogs alone. That’s the cheap end of the challenge, too.
The beers (standard, 16-ounce bottles that are available at virtually every concession in the building) come in at $11.71 with tax, so nine of them are going to put you at $105.39. The kicker: Globe Life Field only allows patrons to purchase two beers at a time. So you’re going to be making quite a few trips. You’ll have to make another stop before the end of the game, too, as the ballpark cuts off alcohol sales after the eighth inning, or 2.5 hours after first pitch.
In total, if you’re partaking in the 9x9x9 challenge, you’ll be paying $177.39. But what is money when pride is on the line?
In some ways, the Globe Life version or the challenge is the more authentic one, anyway. The MLB-sanctioned versions have drawn online criticism for the size of the hot dogs (more like hot dog sliders) and the stadium offering just one beer to fill up nine glasses, rather than the proper nine, full brews.
So … are you up for it? The challenge is waiting there for any Rangers fans for the next 80-ish games at Globe Life during the 2026 season. All you’ll need is some disposable income, an empty stomach and a ride home.
