A Mexican superstar made another surprise visit in Central Texas, but this time it was to satisfy his cravings for authentic Mexican food at a late-night taco spot. Peso Pluma recently visited Taqueria De Diez in downtown Austin while in town this week.
The taqueria shared a photo of “La Doble P” with some of the restaurant’s staff in an Instagram post on Monday, April 6. Pluma’s pit stop occurred one day before his concert in Austin amid the music artist’s ongoing Dinastía tour.
The 26-year-old Grammy winner, who just played a show in San Antonio, will take the stage at Austin’s Moody Center tonight, Tuesday, April 7. Taqueria De Diez owners and brothers Raul and Luis Esquer said they had the pleasure of serving Pluma and his team.
“Having Peso Pluma stop by was one of those special, low-key moments that say everything about who he is,” Esquer told MySA. “He walked up to the counter like any guest, checked out the menu, and went straight for carne asada volcán tacos with cheese and some al pastor. They kept it simple, enjoyed their food quietly, and before heading out, he took the time to be genuinely kind with our team and take a photo with them. Total class.”
Peso Pluma, born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, is a breakout rapper from Jalisco known as one of the most popular names in música mexicana (regional Mexican music) today. His talent for singing top-charting corridos tumbados (trap-corridos) has produced hits like “Ella Baila Sola,” “LADY GAGA,” “LA PATRULLA” and more.
Tuesday’s show will mark Pluma’s long-awaited return to Austin after he first performed at the Moody Center two years ago as part of his Éxodo tour. After Austin, Pluma’s last tour stop in Texas will be in Dallas on April 10.
Taqueria De Diez is a Tijuana-style Mexican street taco joint serving up al pastor, carne asada (steak) and pollo (chicken) variations in tacos, quesadillas and burritos. The taqueria, located in a downtown Austin alleyway, has received high acclaim from foodies since opening in early 2024.
