Just after that crash, a separate collision occurred involving a 2016 BMW 428i and a 2026 Subaru Outback.

Investigators said Jaime Humberto Andrade, a 56-year-old El Paso resident who was driving the Subaru Outback, was struck from behind at a high rate of speed by the BMW.

The BMW driver was identified as Ambar Chavira, a 19-year-old El Paso resident

Andrade was taken to the hospital but later died from injuries sustained in the collision, police said.

Investigators believe alcohol is a contributing factor in the collision.

Police said this was the 15th traffic fatality of the year, compared with 19 at the same time last year.
