The Gregory-Portland Ladycats rallied with a six-run seventh inning to outlast the Corpus Christi Ray Lady Texans 15-14 in a District 29-5A game Tuesday night.
The Ladycats (13-16-2, 8-6) pounded out 18 hits and overcame a late Ray surge to secure the walkoff victory at home, highlighted by a dominant night from Leanna Molina, who drove in five runs on four hits.
Gregory-Portland built an early cushion with four runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 7-0 lead.
Ray responded late, scoring two runs in the fifth before erupting for six runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to briefly take the lead at 14-9 heading into the Ladycats’ final at-bat.
G-P answered in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh, plating six runs to complete the comeback victory.
Molina led Gregory-Portland offensively, finishing 4-for-5 with five RBIs. Emily Cameron added three hits and two RBIs, while Kailani Vargas collected two hits and drove in two runs. Cadence Sandoval contributed two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs, and Kinsey Garcia added two hits and an RBI. Lauren Bennett also recorded two hits and drove in one run.
Emily LaFavers earned the win after working all seven innings. She scattered nine hits, walked nine and struck out five.
The Ladycats will return to action Friday when they host Alice in another 29-5A matchup.
