  • April 8, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Good Samaritans chased down and pinned a man until officers arrived blocks from a Lubbock grocery store, where police say he sexually assaulted a female in the store bathroom. The man was arrested and is now jailed.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, on Wednesday, Lubbock Police responded to the Amigos grocery store located on N. University. According to the sworn police statement, the victim was inside of a stall in the designated woman’s bathroom when she saw another person inside of the restroom.

She realized it was a man when he asked for toilet paper and proceeded to crawl into the stall she was in.

Police report 29-year-old Judah Hew later told officers he told the female to give him her phone and not to say anything. Then he proceeded to remove her pants and sexually assaulted her.

After the attack, the affidavit states Hew left the bathroom and ran from the store. Others who learned of the attack chased him northbound on University. They caught up with him in a nearby neighborhood, on Baylor Street near North Boston Avenue, where they pinned him to the concrete until officers handcuffed him.

Responding officers questioned Hew, who reportedly admitted to the assault. Investigators said said Hew displayed signs that he was under the influence of “an illegal narcotic.”

The United Family released the following statement:

“At Amigos, the safety of our guests and team members is our top priority. We are aware of the incident that occurred in our store yesterday, and our hearts and thoughts are with those affected. We are increasing our security measures and cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation. To preserve the integrity of the police investigation, we are not able to comment further on this matter while the investigation is ongoing.”

Hew was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with sexual assault. He is booked on an additional warrant of indecent exposure, totaling a bond of $115,000.
