HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – A Houston County woman has died as a result of a house fire early Monday morning.
The fire happened just after 1 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Pine Street in Madrid, and took nearly an hour for firefighters to contain.
While surveying the scene, the body of a woman was found inside one of the home’s bathrooms.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd confirmed the death to News4, identifying the woman as 72-year-old Molly Hardrick.
While initial findings indicate Hardrick died of smoke inhalation, Byrd tells News4 that she is being sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.
The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire to determine where and how the blaze started.
