Today’s Big Stories
1. State Board of Education considers controversial social studies curriculum with Bible stories
With a Republican push for more of a focus on Christian history and values in social studies curriculum, there’s an ongoing debate about how and what history Texas students should learn.
The State Board of Education’s proposed social studies curriculum is a chronological history focusing primarily on Texas and U.S. history over world history in kindergarten through eighth grade. One former educator is worried it would give students a narrow worldview framed around a Texas lens.
2. Intel announces plans to join Elon Musk’s Terafab project
Semiconductor manufacturing company Intel announced on Tuesday that it will help with Elon Musk’s $20 billion chip-manufacturing facility project.
The company posted the news on X, a social media platform owned by Musk, saying that it would join the Terafab project—a joint venture between Musk’s companies Tesla, SpaceX and xAI. In the post, Intel said it will “help refactor silicon fab technology.”
3. Fertilizer price increases affecting Texas agriculture industry
The war in Iran has impacted a number of industries, including agriculture. The price of fertilizer is on the rise due to the ongoing conflict that has crippled the Strait of Hormuz.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in agriculture from the moment a seed is planted to the time of harvest. Several factors can determine whether a farmer has a successful season or not and now the war in Iran has added even more uncertainty.
