1. Texas hemp industry leaders ask for temporary injunction against state over product restrictions
Leaders in the Texas hemp industry are asking for a temporary injunction against several state agencies over restrictions that went into effect last week.
The Texas Hemp Business Council, Hemp Industry Farmers of America and other businesses are plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are defendants.
2. Tariffs affect Laredo’s port ranking
A little over a year after worldwide tariffs went into effect, Texas’ border towns are still feeling the impact.
Laredo, which was once the busiest international port in the United States, has lost that title. Laredo Mayor Victor Treviño said the reason for that is directly related to tariffs.
3. Texas schools see enrollment decrease as families report immigration fears
South San Antonio Independent School District Superintendent Saul Hinojosa says the district lost 400 students from last school year to this year — four times what he says the average would be.
School districts can’t track exactly why families unenroll their students, but Hinojosa says some families have been open with staff.

Austin’s Athena the owl welcomes first owlet
Austin’s favorite owl has officially hatched her first owlet.
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, where Athena the great horned owl has nested every year for over a decade, spotted the little white owlet on Wednesday.
