Houston is one of five cities taking part in the pilot program.
HOUSTON — Waymo is teaming up with Waze to track road damage in real time and help cities,  including Houston, to fix it faster.Â
Waymo’s vehicles already scan the road to drive themselves. Now they’re spotting potholes, too, sending that data straight to cities through Waze.Â
Drivers can even confirm those trouble spots in the app, giving city crews a clearer picture of what needs fixing
This new pilot just launched in five cities, and 500 potholes have already been identified.Â
Houston’s pothole tracker shows crews filled more than 53,000 potholes last year. This kind of technology could help them respond even faster since the city has a goal of fixing reported issues within 24 hours. Â
