LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – People from all walks of life are meeting here in the hub city for an opportunity to converse about all things cotton.
The event is hosted by the Texas Cotton Ginners’ Association. Director of communications Aaron Nelsen says this is a perfect location to host something of this magnitude.
“Lubbock is the hub of the cotton belt,” Nelsen said. “There’s more cotton produced, probably normally over 50%, sometimes 60% of the cotton in Texas, is ginned right here within a 90 mile radius of Lubbock, Texas.”
Inside the trade show, exhibitors such as Samuel Jackson, Inc. are showcasing equipment that can could go a long way in helping area gins.
“This is all about gin process control,” Chris Jackson said. “Drying, moisture restoration, measurement technologies, control technologies.”
It also allows for exhibitors from all over the world, including China, to travel to Lubbock and offer industry professionals things that could benefit them for years to come.
“Our wrap is used by the John Deere cotton picker,” Mark Mao with METAG Wrap said. “It’s used for cotton bowing. It’s a very good opportunity to meet some farmers, some ginners and some friends here.”
Other exhibitors, such as Deeco Hosing & Belting, Inc., have been in business here in west Texas for decades and know just how important cotton ginning is to this area.
“On my mother’s side, we were cotton farmers whenever she was growing up,” Caleb Featherston said. “It’s definitely something we enjoy, having them around, and that’s part of what our business model is is being able to keep these guys operating.”
It’s been well-documented these past few years have been rough when it comes to cotton. These exhibitors expressed optimism about how things have been going the past 12 months and hope events like these can push the industry forward in a positive way.
