HOUSTON – Despite two solo home runs, the Houston Baseball team dropped the first game of its three-game series against BYU on Thursday night, 3-2, at Schroeder Park.

Right-fielder Xavier Perez hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season in the third inning. The 408-foot homer tied the game at 1-1 after BYU (16-16, 6-7 Big 12) had scored in the first inning.

BYU took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a 2-run frame. The visitors sprayed 11 hits and held Houston to just three.

Houston (16-16, 3-10 Big 12) had traffic on the bases in each of the first six innings but failed to score in the first six frames aside from Perez’s home run.

Houston clawed a run back on a towering 40-degree launch angle home run by designated hitter Cade Climie in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2.
