SAN ANTONIO – A 21-year-old man is in custody after a chase ended in a crash involving a school bus Friday morning in southeast Bexar County.

The incident happened around 9:25 a.m. near U.S. Highway 87 and Loop 410. Authorities say the driver of a black Ford Explorer was being chased from a neighboring county before entering Bexar County.

Troopers later spotted the SUV and tried to pull it over, but the driver kept going until crashing into the back of an East Central ISD school bus.

The driver, identified as Brandon Xavior Cortina, ran from the scene but was caught a short time later in a nearby Walmart parking lot.

Officials say Cortina had an active warrant out of Victoria County. He now faces several charges, including evading arrest, failure to stop and provide information, and multiple counts of aggravated assault tied to people on the bus.
