H-E-B may have plans sooner rather than later for another Fort Worth grocery store.
The San Antonio-based retailer is asking the city of Fort Worth to rezone land it just purchased a few months ago in far north Fort Worth. The zoning change is for “the intent of a retail use,” according to the filing with the city.
The location is the southeast corner of East Bonds Ranch Road and U.S. 287, directly across from a Kroger Marketplace that opened in October. H-E-B has owned 17.5 acres at that corner for 10 years, but in December it purchased an adjacent 5 acres, bringing the site total to about 22 acres.
The company now wants to rezone the 5 acres from agriculture to “light industrial” to match the larger tract. Light industrial allows for commercial retail.

H-E-B spokesperson Mabrie Jackson told the Star-Telegram on Friday that the company has nothing to announce for the Bonds Ranch Road site. She described the zoning change as merely to align the allowable land uses on the two properties.
