A fourth grader at a Central Texas school district has died after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike last week. Round Rock ISD confirmed that Patrick Case, a student at Teravista Leadership Academy, “passed away peacefully” on Wednesday, April 8.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to the auto-bicyclist crash at approximately 3:30 p.m. on April 1. Texas DPS told MySA that Case was riding his bicycle in a crosswalk on Teravista Club Drive and Teravista Parkway when he was hit by a vehicle.

Case was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene. DPS added that this investigation is currently open and actively being investigated. No other information is available at this time.

In a letter to parents addressing Case’s death, Teravista Principal Michael Wakefield said he was “truly loved by his friends and teachers” at the school. Wakefield said the district was sharing the news “so that families may handle the news in the way that works best for them.”

“It is with great sadness that I share about the loss of a beloved member of our community,” Wakefield wrote. “We are heartbroken at this loss and know that many of our students and staff may be, too.”

The principal added that Teravista will be offering additional counselors to help support students and staff this week.

It’s important to allow our children to express their feelings,” Wakefield said. “We encourage you to do the same, and offer these helpful tips for families, provided by the National Association of School Psychologists. Traumatic events like the loss of a friend or peer can trigger emotional responses that may require counseling support.”
