A man allegedly hid in his ex-girlfriend’s place to surprise her with money and drugs, but another man she brought home spotted him first, law enforcement said. The second man is dead, and the first is charged with murder.

Shiateek De-Shean Wilson, 23, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Noel Denzel Miller, according to court records and an affidavit supporting his arrest.

On Sunday, Bexar County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 7300 block of Roveen Trail in Converse, the document states.

Deputies entered the house and found Miller in an upstairs bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause and manner of death were pending Monday morning, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A woman who lives there told deputies that she and Miller had arrived at her house after 2 a.m. Sunday and were about to take a shower together. Before they got in, Miller left the bathroom to retrieve clothes from the laundry room. That’s when she heard gunshots, according to the affidavit.

She ran out of the bathroom and noticed that her son’s bedroom door was open. She could hear Miller gasping for air, she told investigators. When she went into the bedroom, she saw Miller lying on the bed and bleeding.

While trying to tend to Miller’s wounds, the woman said she looked up and saw her ex-boyfriend, Wilson, standing in the doorway with a black handgun. Wilson then said something about “playing games with him,” according to the affidavit.

She tried to call 911, but Wilson took her phone and took it downstairs, according to the affidavit. She could hear her phone ringing and called down to Wilson, pleading with him to give the phone back so she could call for help.

Wilson then threw the phone upstairs and “told her ‘not to tell on him,'” the affidavit states.

He then left the house, and the woman told deputies he might have fled on foot to a friend’s house in the 8000 block of Chesnut Manor because he did not have a vehicle, according to the affidavit.

The woman said she did not know how Wilson had gotten into her home and that he had texted her that he planned to stay with his mother in San Antonio that night.

Around 9 a.m., investigators arrived at the home on Chestnut Manor and detained Wilson without incident, according to the arrest document.

In an interview with investigators, Wilson said the woman had dropped him off Saturday at a McDonald’s, where he met his mother. He spent the day with his mother and his daughter, texting his ex-girlfriend throughout the day and informing her of his plans to stay with his mother that night.

However, that evening, he asked his uncle to drive him to the ex-girlfriend’s home. He arrived around 1 a.m. and found that she wasn’t home, so he went and hid in an upstairs closet, planning to surprise her with flowers, money and cocaine when she returned, according to the arrest affidavit.

He said he chose that spot because he would be able to see when she returned home. While hiding, he said he drank a BeatBox alcoholic drink and watched videos on social media.

He fell asleep in the closet but woke up when he heard her and a man come into the house. He said he recognized the man’s voice as belonging to Miller, the affidavit said.

When he left the closet, intending to leave the home, he saw Miller and tried to hide along a wall near the doorway. However, Miller had spotted him, the affidavit said.

Wilson told law enforcement that Miller pointed a gun at him and backed out of the room. He said he pulled out his own firearm and fired at Miller.

“(Wilson) stated that he only fired his weapon at (Miller) because (Miller) had pointed a gun at him, claiming he shot (Miller) in self-defense,” the affidavit reads.

Wilson confirmed that he had briefly taken the woman’s phone when she said she was calling police but later gave it back. He told investigators he was frightened and that she told him to “get out of here.”

He said he ran from the home, jumping over fences as he fled. He discarded his gun, phone, headphones and the flowers while fleeing, according to the affidavit.

At the scene, deputies found “multiple fired cartridge casings and projectiles” and defects in the structure of the home consistent with gunfire, the affidavit says. After authorities carried out a search warrant at the home, no firearm was found.

Wilson is held in custody at the Bexar County jail with bail set at $300,000.
